Business Immigration

Canada welcomes business professionals who are seeking new opportunities and challenges. Canada’s business immigration programs are designed to encourage and facilitate the admission of these individuals. Federal, provincial and territorial governments welcome business owners, investors, entrepreneurs, high-net worth individuals and self-employed people and offer services to help foreign individuals start or invest into an existing business and settle in Canada with their families.

What are the Requirements?

A person may become a permanent resident under business immigration programs based on his or her ability to economically establish in Canada. Investment and generating revenue and employment for Canadians and ability in English and/or French will be required.

Work Permits

As a foreign national, you will require a work permit before working in Canada, with a few exceptions. There are different options for obtaining a Canadian work permit. Some work permits require a job offer from a Canadian employer, some require that the employer provide a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), while others require that a person has a connection to Canada (previous education, spousal sponsorship, etc.).

Permanent Residence

To obtain Canadian Residence, business professionals and investors must first obtain a Canadian permanent residence card. Only permanent residents of Canada can become citizens and obtain a Canadian passport after they have physically spent 3 years in Canada.
